A message from Maz.
This is just a quick note, and 1 that has been difficult to write.
I'm going to be giving up the lease for the SoulTrain Unit at the end of March. This has been a tough decision to make, but one that has to be done.
The last (almost) 7 years have been amazing, though at times challenging for all eh. It's hard to find the exact words to describe how cool it has been working with you all. I set off wanting to grow an environment that was more than just a gym and I feel that if it wasn't for all the amazing users this would never have been achieved.
In the early days one of you described SoulTrain as ' a gym for people who don't like gyms '. I definitely understood what he was saying and I've heard it said many times since. At the same time, I've never been quite sure how to use this in my marketing
Been a bit of an one man band has had its drawbacks and where I enjoy coaching above anything else, the administrative side of things hasn't been easy. This certainly includes marketing and potentially competing with those more savvy in the online world, I definitely haven't used ChatGPT for this btw
I have always enjoyed the face to face, physical space for training and having been involved in online education for over 20 years I understand the reach and benefits, but at the same time, you can't beat been right there when an athlete achieves something in the room.
SoulTrain has always been about more than sets n reps and this is the philosophy since day 1. Each and everyone of you is an individual and even within a group environment I've strived to recognise this, accommodate and adapt.
I'm not sure what is next for the SoulTrain Unit in Dronfield. Currently talking to parties interested in taking over the space as is, so fingers crossed there will be opportunities for continuity, something I've not taken lightly, but a little out of my control.
As for the SoulTrain Athletic brand and myself. This will continue! A first step is going to involve a big move with the family to Canada. There is a great opportunity for the kids so we feel the timing is right now for them. I will explore the online world and look to ways of keeping it personal and I aim to hit the ground running.
Sessions will continue through March and I look forward to seeing you. As ever keep those questions coming. Remember, your coach should always be able to explain the 'why' when it comes to programming. I've always set out to empower and I hope that you've learned plenty and have the confidence to walk into any gym, hold your own and programme yourself a workout. Now is a great opportunity to put everything into practice. Otherwise, come see me this March and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of S&C, oh and btw, just watching in the gym, well, there are some fantastic coaches amongst you. I mean this!
Thanks so much for all the laughter, tears, cheers n beers.
Go well staa and remember the our mission statement.
SoulTrain Athletic.
